Chandigarh, Aug 27 – A special campaign for mapping of past enmity hotspots of carried out by Haryana Police has resulted in an estimated 17% decline of potential murder incidents.

Giving this information here today, Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order), Mr Navdeep Singh Virk informed that police had conducted mapping from July 2 to July 15, 2019 across the State to identify and analyse the cases where there is a past enmity and probability of it resulting into a violent incident or murder. Police teams systematically studied the records about ‘personnel vendetta or enmity’ in 178 potential murder/clash points, and thereafter monitored them regularly. This led to a decline in 31 murder cases, when compared to earlier such period.

Terming ‘past enmity’ to be the most common motive for murder, Mr Virk said that analysis of murder incidents in first half of years 2018 and 2019 shows an increasing trend with the figure of 528 and 590 respectively in the state. But after the mapping drive, the trend seen in second half of 2019, when compared to trend in first half as well as second half, shows a significant decline of 31 cases of murder from 573 to 542. Thus our efforts averted several potential murders, he added.

Feeling encouraged with the exercise of last year, second such exercise has now been planned from 1st to 15th Sept 2020.
