Chandigarh ,sunita shastri: Panjab University 11th Rose Festival will be held from 7th to 9th February, 2020 at Prof. R.C. Paul Rose Garden. The theme of the festival is ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ to give green & clean environment message to the general public.Er. Anil Thakur, Divisional Engineer (H), Panjab University and organiser of the festival informed the media during the Press Meet here today that three day mega event will be inaugurated by Prof. Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor, Panjab University on 07.02.2020 at 2:00 pm. Prof. Shankarji Jha, Dean of University Instruction will preside
over the inauguration and Prof. Karamjeet Singh, Registrar, Panjab University will be the Guest of Honour.Prof. R.C. Paul Rose Garden has been given a facelift for the Festival. The entrance gates have been beautified and hedges have been better designed. More than 3400 Rose plants of 158 varieties are adorning the garden. 13 nos. new varieties have been added this year. Certain varieties will have different colours of flowers blossoming in the same plant will add to the beauty of the garden. Prof. R.C. Paul Rose Garden, the venue of the festival, was landscaped about 10 years ago and is situated in the Heart of Panjab University in front of Vice Chancellor’s Office. Prof. R.C. Paul Rose Garden is spread over an area of 3.5 acres.The winners of the Flower Competition and Photography Competition will be displayed on the first day of the event. On this occasion, the cultural programmes will be presented by Ankur School, Panjab University, Guru Gobind Singh Vidya Mandir Sr. Sec. School, Ratwara Sahib & Tibetan students of Panjab University. This willbe followed by a competition of bands of various schools. Entry to School Band Competition is free of cost.Er. Thakur informed 13 different competitions are being arranged for different age groups among the School, College and University Students and general public namely Photography, Band, Singing, Rangoli, Collage Making, Slogan Writing, Face Painting, Poetic Recitation, Dancing, Creative Mehandi, Rose Prince & Princess, Painting and Fancy Dress. Different selfie points will be created for the attraction of the visitors. The competitions have been receiving great response, particularly the competitions meant for kids like Dancing and Rose Prince & Princess, he added. More than 600 entries have been received.Special children can participate in painting competition free of cost. They are not required to fill any form and just have to report at the venue half an hour prior to the competition. All the three days of the festival will have special attractions in the evening. On first day of this festival i.e. on 07.02.2020, there will be Cultural Night in the
evening.On the second day of the festival i.e. on 08.02.2020, renowned comedians, Vishwas Chauhan (finalist of The Great Indian Laughter Challenge), Ravinder Mand, Jaggi Dhuri, Jagdeep Bheema and mimicry artists, Ashish Ratouri and Osheen will entertain the audience in a Laughter Show.Dr. Kamla, Cultural Coordinator, Panjab University, in coordination with organisers of the festival, has invited student artists of Panjab University to perform during the first and second day of the festival in the evening during Cultural Nights.
The third day of the festival i.e. 09.02.2020, will have Bollywood Star Night in the evening featuring Alamgir Khan, Aman and Srishti Bhandari.Traditional artists like Nachhar, Stick Walkers etc. will also perform during the 11th Panjab University Rose Festival. The artists have been provided in collaboration with
North Zone Cultural Centre, Patiala.There will be live Art Workshop ‘Golshan-2020’ curated by Dr. Tirthankar Bhattacharya, Chairperson, Deptt of Art History & Visual Art & Coordinator, Fine Arts Events, 11th Panjab University Rose Festival in the Prof. R.C. Paul Rose Garden in which eminent artists from the tricity will make paintings on three days.A three day Exhibition-cum-Workshop on the theme ‘Natural Biodiversity’ to sensitize the audience about the science, climate, environment, biodiversity, nature, flora, fauna etc. will also be there in the festival. To cater to the need of the visitors, there would be variety of food space in the Food Court.For entertainment of youngsters and children, amusement park and gaming zones will be set up.Space will be provided to sponsors to showcase their products and services which will get vast publicity due to huge gatherings expected at the festivlike previous years.Stalls for display and sale of products and services can be put up at the festival.
